What to look for

What sermorelin is

Sermorelin is a synthetic analogue of growth hormone-releasing hormone (GHRH) that stimulates the pituitary gland to release the body's own growth hormone. It was previously FDA-approved as Geref for diagnosing and treating growth hormone deficiency in children; the manufacturer discontinued it in 2008 for commercial reasons, not safety. Today it is available only from compounding pharmacies — most often as an injection, though some also make tablets, sublingual or rapid-dissolve forms, and nasal sprays — and is prescribed off-label for adult body composition, sleep, and recovery. The small studies behind it used injections; evidence for the non-injected forms is thinner still.

How it works

Sermorelin consists of the first 29 amino acids of natural GHRH, the active portion of the hormone. It binds GHRH receptors in the pituitary and triggers pulsatile growth hormone release, which in turn raises IGF-1 from the liver. Because it works through the pituitary, the body's normal feedback (somatostatin) still limits GH output — a theoretical safety advantage over injecting growth hormone directly. Its half-life is very short, so it is usually injected nightly to coincide with natural GH pulses during sleep. Evidence for adult anti-aging use comes from small, older studies showing IGF-1 increases and modest body-composition changes; there are no large modern trials.

What to expect

Typically injected subcutaneously once daily at bedtime, sometimes on a 5-days-on, 2-days-off schedule. Some patients report sleep changes within a few weeks. Any changes in body composition generally take 3–6 months. IGF-1 should be rechecked after several weeks to confirm response and guide dosing.

Who it's not for

People with active cancer or a recent cancer history; People with untreated hypothyroidism; Pregnant or breastfeeding women; People with poorly controlled diabetes, unless closely monitored.

Frequently asked questions

Where is the best place to get Sermorelin online?

Direct Meds ranks #1 on this list with a score of 7.3/10 and plans from $299/mo. Scores weigh trust and safety, value, patient experience, product range and reputation.

What is the cheapest way to get Sermorelin online?

How are these providers ranked?

▾

By our category score: trust and safety (30%), value (25%), patient experience (20%), product range in this category (15%) and reputation (10%), with a small bonus for specialists. The full methodology is published on our methodology page.

Is sermorelin FDA-approved?

▾

Not currently. It was approved as Geref until the brand was withdrawn from the market in 2008 for business reasons. Because it was a component of a previously approved drug, it can generally still be compounded by licensed pharmacies, but any use for adult anti-aging or body composition is off-label.

Is sermorelin the same as growth hormone?

▾

No. Growth hormone (somatropin) is the hormone itself; sermorelin prompts the pituitary to release more of your own. Prescribing growth hormone for anti-aging is not a lawful use in the U.S., which is one reason sermorelin became the growth-axis option offered by wellness and longevity clinics.

How much does sermorelin cost online?

▾

Most compounded sermorelin programs through telehealth charge roughly $100–200 per month, with a few above that, depending on dose, format, and whether labs and consults are bundled.

Do I need blood work for sermorelin?

▾

A responsible provider will check IGF-1 at baseline and again after starting, along with glucose. Without labs there is no way to tell whether the dose is doing anything or pushing IGF-1 too high.
